Elementary Garden Science Programming
OUR MODEL
CitySprouts’ full-time Garden Educators (GEs) lead classes one or two days a week at our 24 partner schools in Cambridge and Boston. The GEs facilitate sessions in the school garden classrooms for pre-kindergarten through 5th students using our Garden Science curriculum, which aligns with Massachusetts Science, Technology, and Engineering Standards. CitySprouts educators collaborate with teachers to extend and deepen students’ science knowledge and skills as well as their connection to the natural world, using the school garden as a central space for learning.
We strive to make CitySprouts lessons accessible for students of all abilities and backgrounds, to incorporate social-emotional learning and healthy foods, and to ensure that learning is hands-on and fosters curiosity and wonder. Programming outcomes are regularly captured by Sun Associates, an external evaluator.
The CitySprouts program is supported in part through service agreements in Cambridge Public Schools and Boston Public Schools. The CitySprouts Program works only in these school districts.
