Dig It! 2026: A Recap

Caele Panares, Communications and Development Manager

Dig It! 2026, on Wednesday, April 15th, celebrated the 25th anniversary of CitySprouts! We are so proud of all the work that has been put into getting kids learning outside and cultivating curiosity and wonder in their own school gardens. We can’t thank our sponsors, partners, and supporters enough for everything they have given to make this all possible. No matter how much or how little you have been involved with CitySprouts, this celebration is for our entire community!

The night started with mingling and perusing the various silent auction items. We even had small sprout clips people put in their hair or clothes that made us all look like human plants. It was a tiny, but adorable gesture.

Revival Cafe & Kitchen and Mei Mei Dumplings catered a charcuterie board and dumplings that were absolutely delicious. Chatter and laughter filled the walls of the MIT Welcome Center, and everyone was thrilled to celebrate.

The auditorium opened up, and the program began. Susan and Rohan welcomed and thanked everyone for coming.

Cambridge City Councilor Mark McGovern shared some amazing news: a proclamation from Cambridge Mayor Siddiqui that Thursday, May 21st, 2026, will officially be known as CitySprouts Day! We are so excited to celebrate and dedicate time to spreading awareness of our organization.

We then honored our Environmental & Community Impact Awardees, Min-Jen Taylor, Principal of Baldwin Early Learning Center in Boston, and Darrell Williams, Principal of King Open School in Cambridge. These special leaders in the Cambridge and Boston Public Schools have helped advance garden education immensely. Katherine Walsh and Superintendent David Murphy introduced Min-Jen and Darell, and the roaring support from the crowd was uplifting. To thank them for their partnership, hard work, and dedication, we gifted them framed photos of their respective school gardens.

The night ended with cute mini garden cupcakes, seedlings to take home and plant to mark CitySprouts’ 25th year, and closing the silent auction. There were many, many wins that night, and everyone left with a smile on their face and a plant in their hands.

We raised nearly $50,000 at Dig It! and had over 118 guests (with more bidding on the online silent auction from their homes!) It was a lovely event, and we feel extremely inspired to keep growing a greener future for the children in our community.
