Development & Communications Manager Spotlight: Krity Gurung

Krity (she/her) is the Development & Communications Manager and has been at CitySprouts for almost 3 years. Krity leads fundraising efforts, manages donor relations, and oversees strategic communications to effectively share CitySprouts’ mission and impact!

What originally inspired you to get involved in youth garden education?

My appreciation for gardens and green spaces began in childhood, shaped by memories of playing outside, digging in the dirt, collecting rocks, and finding snails. Those experiences continue to inspire me to share that same curiosity, exploration, and connection to the earth with others, especially young people.

What’s one important skill you believe gardening teaches kids that they can use outside the garden?

One thing I really love seeing is how kids start to notice the little things when they’re out in the garden- how the soil feels, how a leaf moves in the wind, or the bees buzzing around. It helps them slow down and become more aware of their surroundings, a skill that helps them stay present and attentive not just in the garden, but in all parts of their lives.

How do you envision the future of youth garden education in urban schools, and what are your goals for its growth?

I hope every urban school prioritizes garden education! I see gardens as places where kids not only learn about growing healthy food but also build strong connections with each other and their community and find a sense of belonging through gardening.

Who is Krity outside of CitySprouts?

If you could switch lives with any character from a book, movie, or show for a day, who would it be?

I’d choose Sydney from The Bear, but only if I could skip the stress and just eat Sydney’s food while vibing in the kitchen with the rest of the crew.

What’s the strangest food combination you secretly love?

Mangos and cottage cheese.
