Food Education
Food education is a core element of the CitySprouts program, practiced in our summer middle school program, through the hands-on experience of growing and eating fruits and vegetables grown in the CitySprouts gardens, in the cafeteria tastings introducing healthier menu items to children, and in programs for teachers and after school instructors.
CitySprouts partners with the Agenda for Children, Cambridge Department of Public Health, and the Agassiz Baldwin Community to offer the Cooking Outside the Box workshop series. Focusing on helping after school teachers and care providers to incorporate healthy, fresh food into their snack times and cooking classes, Cooking Outside the Box workshops provide after school instructors with relevant background information and hands-on experiences to transform how children learn about where food comes from as well as harvesting and preparing fresh produce for tasty snacks. Sponsored by Whole Foods Markets, Cambridge.
